Metonymic Landscape –Exhibition by Po-Hsun Yen and Jung-Shiuan Jeng
Getting close to nature is good for the body and soul. For a long time, we have carried painting materials outdoors to mountains and rivers, just like predecessors expressing their aesthetic and artistic concept through landscapes and savor all God’s creations. All these can be depicted in paintings through the process of “metonymy”. This concept refers to transferring the relationship between humans and nature into subjective paintings with interpretations from different artists to get closer to nature and reach a state of mind, body and soul.
This exhibition displays the outdoor sketching and indoor art works from 2010 to 2011 of two artists who sublimate and refine sceneries and explore the beauty hidden within. The artists express their ideas and thoughts towards art and convey a concept through their artworks: artworks are not simply just productions, but also an artist’s ideal portrayal of nature.
